Resident Resources Network (RRN) is pleased to announce that it was recently awarded a grant from Ohio Capital Impact Corporation (OCIC) to cover the cost of summer camp, and transportation to and from camp, for children and families of nine affordable housing communities across Ohio. If you have ever experienced the fun of going to summer camp as a child, then you already know that the experience of summer camp is invaluable for children and inspires memories that nothing else can quite replicate. Not only does summer camp promote fun, adventure, and new friendships for children, it also supports exploration, creativity, and personal growth that can help children build confidence and start the new school year off strong.
To this end, RRN has worked collaboratively with OCIC for the past nine years to make summer camp a reality for children of families who might not otherwise be able to afford the opportunity. RRN’s Service Coordinators at each of the nine housing communities work diligently to establish partnerships with local summer camp providers to make the experiences available and support families’ participation.
The summer camp days are filled with enriching and interactive activities that excite young minds and keep children engaged, such as swimming, bowling, art, music, exploring nature, field trips and so much more! Every day, children are splashing, laughing, hiking, crafting, and making memories. At the same time, they are being exposed to new things and learning new skills that strengthen character and build well-rounded individuals. Plus, mom, dad, grandparents, and loved ones get some peace and respite knowing the children are being cared for in a safe environment. Ultimately, OCIC’s investment and partnership with RRN is going a long way towards ensuring that children and their families have experiences that lead to better outcomes and a brighter tomorrow.
